Batman v Superman : Dawn of Justice may very well be the biggest maelstrom of mashed tone and style over substance film-making that the world will witness for the foreseeable future. So of course the gang sat down to deconstruct it from the bottom up and attempt to make heads or tails of the whole thing. Vulgarity and massive spoilers follow.
Film is a medium that is ruled by the sum of its parts. This is why it is possible to enjoy a film when certain elements falter in the eyes of the viewer. It is a function of the medium itself that a film can overcome the under-performance of its own elements to be viewed as a success by the audience. This is an understanding that most lovers of film will readily acknowledge when discussing the art form. It is a reason why viewers are apt to have so-called “guilty pleasures” wherein some element of an otherwise disposable piece of entertainment overpowers its combined negative elements to provide enjoyment to the person watching. There is nothing wrong with being the dissenting opinion. There is nothing wrong with believing that a film has merit that others do not see. However, in the wake of the release of mega-blockbuster Batman v Superman…
The gang sits down to discuss 10 Cloverfield Lane and spends a good chunk of it opining that Mary Elizabeth Winstead deserves better. So much better, you guys. She’s a damned treasure. Please note that this is a pretty spoiler heavy episode. I know that goes without saying, but we’re saying it anyway.
The gang traveled to Austin to visit the Staple Independent Media Expo and held their first live show. A bunch of fellow podcasters and media creators turned out to discuss tangents of every shape and size, from Ghostbusters to KFC. There are far too many guests to name them all, but just think of it as a surprise grab bag of friendly faces (or voices, as the case may be)
**The audio quality is not up to our usual standard because of the space we were recording in, so we did our best with it. Everything is trial and error and our next live show should have fewer tech glitches.**.
For those who have never seen the “Hammerman” intro that is referenced in the show. Please to be enjoy.
The gang reunites to talk about whether or not award shows serve any real purpose but then everything goes in a weird direction and they wind up talking about so much that it doesn’t even really fit in the summary box.
Everybody went to go see Deadpool and so did we. We actually don’t talk about the film as much as we should because Jake had a drink beforehand and figured that tangents were the way to go. Because tangents.
March 5 & 6 sees the 12th Annual STAPLE INDEPENDENT MEDIA EXPO return to Austin, TX and so we decided to invite the mastermind behind the whole endeavor onto the show alongside STAPLE guest and friend of the show (that never isn’t weird) Gene Ha to talk about why conventions like this are so amazing alongside some truly disturbing tangents about potatoes.
Also, we’re giving away two FREE tickets to Staple. All you have to do is follow us on Twitter @PopSchlockPod and send us the picture of the finest potato you can find with the hashtag #POTATOSTAPLE and we’ll get you into the hottest indie media event in Texas.
